Susan T. Nelson is an award-winning and internationally-recognised composer. We’re delighted to be able to offer two of her handbell titles for purchase from Choraegus. Elysium (3-5 octaves, with optional flute descant)
Laurie and Rusty Sanders commissioned this piece in 1996. Susan originally composed Elysium (named by Rusty) for 3 octaves, but when Rusty and Laurie received the manuscript, they asked Susan to expand the piece to 5-octaves. Better still, the 5-octave version sports a descant line that gives it a different character from the original work. Elysium is suitable for baptisms, weddings or general use, and works well as a massed work for festivals.
Mu Süda Ärka Üles (4-7 octaves)
Campanelli is an Estonian handbell ensemble. Their director Inna Lai brought the group to the USA for a four-concert tour in 2017. We joined them on their tour, and commissioned this piece from Susan T. Nelson for the group to perform. Susan arranged this traditional Estonian folk song to celebrate both the Campanelli tour and our 5th wedding anniversary.
We enjoyed performing Mü Süda Ärka Üles with Campanelli during their concert. The first-ever performance took place at Estonian House in New York City, and we’re pleased to be able to share this video with you:
We hope you’ll enjoy Susan’s handbell music. If you have any questions, let us know, and we’ll put you in touch with her!
